PAPER HEARTS

Just a little something for Valentine's Day . . .
A couple winters ago, "McKinney Jan" and I made a bunch of these paper hearts.  I came home, put them away, and kind of forgot I had them.  I don't know how that happened because I love how they turned out!  Well, I found them again when I was sorting and sifting my way through my craft supplies!  What great timing!  We made them out of paper lunch bags and old book pages - kind of like a sandwich.  We just put the pieces together and ran them through the sewing machine.  Easy as can be!

Paper bag heart + batting + Paper bag heart + book page heart = stuffed paper hearts

So I got out a length of hemp string and put a little dab of hot glue on the back of each heart leaving about 6 inches between each one.
 Like this . . .
Then a little dab of hot glue at either end of the mantel to hold it up there.
(Yes, on the mantel.  I do stuff like that.)

 And it's done!
Now, to bring a little valentine-ness to the rest of the house . . .

I heart your heart banner! It's great for Valentine's! Are you going to link it up to any of the linky parties? You should! Blessings from Bama!

Oh, these are lovely. What a sweet idea. I love sewn paper, used to make dolls like that as a kid.

i LOVE these! they are totally cool and use my favorite materials: paper bags and paper. i have trouble with my sewing machine stitching through paper...the tension or something...because the back is all gummed up. or i can't get the stitching right because the front gets messed up...would you PLEASE do a tutorial about sewing on paper? i even bought a small portable singer machine to use JUST for paper, but that was even worse because the dog feed thing was almost nonexistent and the paper just slid every which way. i would LOVE to know how to do this...do i get a different needle? do i use a different tension? my machine is a phaff and it doesn't even mention sewing on paper in the instruction book...i need a tutorial bad. thanks for sharing this great idea!

Wow, Auntiejenni - I don't know what to tell you. We didn't really think about it. We just slid it through like fabric and there was no problem whatsoever. We used just regular thread and normal tension. I recently also wrapped some gifts in paper, and instead of using tape, I just sewed the ends shut. That, too, was no problem. I wish I could help you. I did find this tutorial on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roeIZ5RUHRM&feature=related

If that doesn't work - maybe you could hand stitch?
Good luck! -Nan
