A FINISHED GUEST ROOM AND A 'THANK YOU'!

Following, are some pictures of the second guest room, finally finished!

Bedding is from Ikea and was quite a steal!  The toile shams and duvet were only $14.99 each, and that was for the full size set.  Even though they're twin size beds, I wanted to put a full size quilt inside each duvet cover so that the bedding would go to the floor.  Because they are full size sets, each one came with TWO pillow shams!  Bonus!

  

The pear painting between the beds was one of my very first paintings, and is in a great frame I found at Goodwill for only $12.00!  The ranunculus painting on the other wall is similar to some in my Etsy shop.

 This is a little sewing machine table an elderly neighbor gave to us about 20 years ago.  Her son made it for her and I've since painted it white and used a Graphics Fairy label on the front.

 The colors are perfect and it's so feminine!

   My grandmother's childhood rocking chair, over 100 years old, is such a treasure!

This time Nan used her expert painting skills on a cute little Vintage Desk! She used the Ornate Oval Frame Image on the top of the desk, and then added some French wording in the center. So charming!!

Personalizing a desk top

I am on a guest room roll lately.  

Here's the situation.  

I was scrolling through the Graphics Fairy again, looking for some clip art of a frame with lots of curly-ness and frou-frou.  I am in the process of dressing up a desk in a guest room.  I wanted something with a French phrase in it that would look pretty and also say something warm and inviting.  I found just the right "frame" and decided to put my own phrase inside of it.  I used the frame graphic found here.  So pretty and exactly what I was looking for!

 Now, I needed to transfer that design to the desk top.  I didn't want to use carbon paper for two reasons.  

1.  I didn't want ink on the desk top that 

could interfere with the paint I'll put on later.

2.  I wanted to be able to erase any mistakes

I might make in the transfer process.

So, I turned the piece over and covered the back of the clip art area with graphite from the pencil.

No need to be careful - you want to get plenty of graphite on the paper so it transfers well.  Then you flip it over with the graphite side down and start tracing.  This doesn't take long at all.  It doesn't have to be perfect.

 

After that, I centered the French phrase I had decided on and traced that, again, graphite side down.

You can translate any combination of words using Google Translate.  I have it on my homepage - it's a gadget that you can download for no cost.   I put in the sentence, "Welcome to our lovely guest."  You can choose from Albanian to Ukrainian!   It's an easy way to find out what all those french phrases say on that great Graphics Fairy clip art, if you don't speak French!  The gadget looks like this:

After I traced my design, I pulled away the paper and this is the design I'll be painting. 

 This is the end of the road for tonight.  When you spend your days with a roomful of 6th graders, you fade quickly in the evening.  Tomorrow is another day . . . and I'll be painting!

Something for the Curious Guest

When you have guests stay at your house, you want everything to be perfect.  You go around the house and dust, and clean, and plump your pillows.  Sometimes, you even quickly jam things into drawers where they don't even belong have to tuck things neatly away and out of sight at the last minute.  You just want it to look welcoming and fresh.

Well, I was going through some of the beautiful graphics on the Graphics Fairy, and came across this sweet little clip art piece of a bundle of love letters.  I had to find a place to use it!  So, I went up to the pink guest room and looked around.  This is a very romantic room and it would be the perfect place for a bundle of love letters . . . 

I thought about this little table I recently painted and absentmindedly opened the drawer.

 Ah-ha!  Very, very ugly.  What if a guest got curious and opened that drawer?  It's still the same old yellow color it was when I bought it at an antique store.  So . . . why not paint the inside and make it a pleasant surprise for a curious guest?
